Hidden Flames
Chapter 4 – Storm and Reconciliation
1. The village guests and the opening party
The courtyard of the log house was wrapped in the light of lanterns, like a thousand tiny stars descending to the earth. Guests from the village stepped onto the terrace laughing, carrying baskets of homemade cakes, wine, and pálinka. The sound of the harmonica and violin rose into the spring night, weaving rhythm through the air.
– “Almost the whole village is here,” Nathan remarked as he watched the arrivals through the window.
Lucas placed his hand on his shoulder:
– “That’s how it should be. Let them see this place will live.”
Laughter, dance steps, clinking glasses – everything proclaimed that a new chapter in the house’s life had begun. And yet, in the middle of the crowd Nathan’s eyes narrowed for a moment, seeing how many men and women sought Lucas’s gaze. A spark of jealousy lit within him, not letting him rest.
– “Too many are looking at you…” he whispered softly.
– “And whose heart do I belong to?” Lucas asked, looking deeply into Nathan’s eyes.
The music quickened, guests began to dance. The lights in the lanterns trembled as if the wind had brought a warning.
2. The approaching storm
From the mountains came a dull rumble, like a distant drumroll. The sky slowly turned gray, the wind played with the lanterns’ light, casting shadows on the guests’ faces.
– “Do you feel it?” Lucas asked as the wind tousled his hair.
– “It’s as if nature itself is about to break upon us,” Nathan replied.
The music grew quieter, as if the musicians too sensed the approaching storm. The villagers slowly began to gather their things, the yard filling with parting words and hurried steps. Something more vibrated in the air: not just the storm, but a sign of change.
3. Daniel’s entrance
When the last guest disappeared down the forest path, the door suddenly flew open. In the flash of lightning, a familiar figure appeared: Daniel. His face bore a weary stubble, a rain-soaked bag in his hand.
Lucas’s face stiffened, Nathan’s gaze searched his expression in confusion.
– “What are you doing here?” Lucas asked sharply.
Daniel set the bag down, pulling from it an envelope stuffed with money.
– “I came to return what I owed you. I know you didn’t expect it. But… I want to make the past right.”
Lucas stared in shock at the money.
– “I thought I’d never see it again…”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
– “I ruined everything. I left you because I was a coward. Now… I don’t have much time. I’m terminally ill. This is the last thing I can do.”
Nathan’s chest tightened. He felt both sympathy and jealousy.
– “Why now? Why burst into our life at this moment?” he demanded.
– “Because I don’t want to vanish without saying: I always loved you. But I ask for nothing. Only forgiveness.”
The room fell silent, filled only by the storm raging outside.
4. The rupture and the beginning of reconciliation
At last Daniel left, the door closing behind him. Lucas stood by the table, envelope in hand, as if he didn’t know what to do with it. Nathan turned to him angrily.
– “Why didn’t you tell me it was such a great love between you?”
– “Because only you matter now,” Lucas replied, but his voice trembled.
The storm’s light burst into the room with each flash of lightning, weaving shadows on the walls around them. Nathan’s eyes welled with tears, Lucas stepped closer, but he pushed him away.
– “Don’t touch me… not yet.”
But Lucas didn’t yield. He pulled him tightly into his arms, pressing his chest to Nathan’s back.
– “You are my home. You are my present. Let me prove it.”
Nathan slowly weakened in the embrace. Beneath the anger was the fear: that he might lose everything they had built together.
5. The lovemaking and dawn
The storm’s roar accompanied them as the embrace turned into a kiss. At first slow, cautious, then increasingly fervent. Their wet clothes clung to them, the flashes of lightning glistened on their skin.
Lucas pulled Nathan onto the bed. The caresses were soft like a gentle rain, then wild like a gust of wind. His hands roamed possessively over his body, and Nathan surrendered with sighs.
– “Don’t ever leave me…” Nathan whispered.
– “Never,” Lucas replied, as he slowly entered him.
The movements were slow at first, almost solemn, as if sealing their reconciliation itself. Then desire swept them away like a torrent rushing down from the mountains. The rhythm became wild, their bodies clashed, their moans merged with the thunder.
Nathan’s nails dug into Lucas’s back, his body shook, and with an erupting climax pleasure surged through him. White heat burst between them, spilling across Lucas’s chest and stomach.
The sight unleashed Lucas’s passion: with one deep, powerful thrust he gave himself fully, filling Nathan with a flood of warmth.
They lay entwined on the bed, their bodies still trembling, while the storm outside slowly subsided. The first light of dawn broke through the clouds, as if nature itself had made peace with them.
Lucas touched his forehead to Nathan’s.
– “Now you know… you are my everything.”
Nathan’s eyes brimmed with tears, but he smiled.
– “And you are mine.”
