The Wedding Day
Nathan
The morning on the farm was like a dream, but full of tension that gripped my heart. The sunlight’s golden rays filtered through the bedroom window, illuminating the wrinkled sheet where Lucas and I still lay tangled in each other. Outside the world was awakening: birds chirped in the trees, horses whinnied in the corral, wind rustled in the tall grass, bringing the scent of fresh cut grass and wildflowers. The air was full of excitement, like before a storm, but in me happiness mixed with fear. Today was the day. Our wedding day. But the shadow of the past lurked: George’s words like a knife in my heart, “you are the family’s shame”, my mother’s silence that hurt even more, because she didn’t stand up for me. Tears welled in my eyes, but I wiped them away. Lucas was beside me, he was my healing, my future.
Lucas woke first, his arm tightly embracing me, lips on my neck. “Good morning, husband” he whispered smiling, his voice still sleepy but full of love. “I’m not yet” I replied laughing, but the word sounded so good, yet crying choked my throat. Husband. Tonight it will be true, but what if the past ruins it? He kissed me, slowly, deeply, tongues danced, but we stopped. We knew the day would be long. “I’m nervous” I confessed, my voice trembled. “The past. George. Mother.” Lucas’s eyes were full of compassion, his hand caressed my face. “Nathan, today you’ll be my husband. The past can’t take it from us. You are my world, and today everyone will see it.” Tears streamed down my face, but now from happiness. I embraced him, felt his heartbeat, his love that healed.
We got up, quick shower, the water hot, but no time for more. The farm was already buzzing. Erika in the kitchen helped Mary with breakfast preparation: fresh eggs fried in the pan, coffee scent mixed with toast, Paul and Bobby in the field set up the last chair under the tree where the ceremony would be. The air full of sounds: laughter, hammer blows, neighbors’ cars arrived, bringing guests. Not many, only thirty, friends, Lucas’s family, and me. The shadow of the past was still in me, George’s words, my mother’s silence, but today I didn’t let it ruin.

Nathan was nervous, I saw it as he stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his shirt. The white shirt fit perfectly on him, highlighting his broad shoulders, sun-tanned skin. I stepped behind him, my arm around his waist, chin on his shoulder. “You’re beautiful” I whispered. “And today you’ll be my husband.” He turned, his eyes shining. “You’re the beautiful one. But yes, I’m nervous. What if something goes wrong?” I smiled, kissed him. “Nothing. Today only we matter. And our love.”
Outside in the field everything was ready. Under the big tree white chairs lined up, flowers decorated the branches: roses, lilies, the air filled with their sweet scent. Daniel, the registrar, was already there, in black suit, smiling. Guests arrived: Lucas’s farm friends, Erika with my sister, who hugged me smiling. “Nathan, darling, this is your day. Forget the past.” Paul, my brother, stood beside me as witness, Erika beside Nathan. Music played softly, a guitar, simple song about love.
At the start of the ceremony Nathan stepped to me, his hand held by Erika. The wind blew gently, bringing the scent of earth. Daniel spoke, his voice warm. “Today two people unite who found each other in the world. Lucas and Nathan, their love strong like this farm, deep like the roots.” Our vows followed. I started. “Nathan, you are my life. In your past pain I see your strength. I promise, I’ll always be by your side, love you, protect you, make you happy.” Nathan’s eyes became wet. “Lucas, you are my refuge. You gave back my faith. I promise, I love you, support you, be by your side in every storm.” Rings slipped on our fingers, silver shining in the sunlight. “Now you may kiss each other” said Daniel. The kiss was long, sweet, guests clapped, Erika cried, Paul whistled.

The celebration continued in the barn. Tables groaned with food: roasted lamb with garlic, rosemary potatoes, fresh salad from the garden, the air full of spices, wine scent. Music played, a local DJ mixed the songs, dancing started. Erika pulled me to the floor, “Come, Nathan, show it!” We danced laughing, Lucas joined, his arms embraced me, our bodies moved together to the rhythm. The shadow of the past was far, here only joy was, love.
Later, when the sun set, and stars shone in the sky, guests slowly left. We remained in the barn, Lucas and I, alone. The music softened, candles flickered, the air cooler but the desire warmed us.
Lucas
I held Nathan’s hand, pulled him toward the house. Our bedroom door closed behind us, the world stayed outside. “Husband” I whispered, my lips touched his. The kiss slow, sweet like honey, tongues played, taste wine and love. My hands unbuttoned his shirt, revealing hairy chest, muscles tensed at my touch. Our clothes fell to the floor, naked bodies pressed together. Nathan sighed when I kissed his neck, down, across chest, stomach, leaving marks everywhere. When I took him in my mouth, he moaned, his hand tangled in my hair. I teased him slowly, torturously, until he begged.
“Lucas. Please.”
I rose above him, eyes locked on his as I entered him, slowly, inch by inch, letting him feel every bit of me. Our movements careful at first, almost ceremonial, then wilder, deeper. The farm sounds surrounded us: wind in trees, crickets, our own panting.
“Nathan.” I whispered his name like a prayer as I moved faster inside him. “You’re about to be my husband.”
My body arched; my arms held him tight, nails digging into his back.
“I already am,” I gasped. “I always have been.”
When we came, together, at the same moment, I cried his name into the summer night. Afterward we just lay in each other’s arms, sweaty, breathless, our hearts beating as one.
Nathan
We panted, our bodies intertwined in the silence of the wedding night. The farm sounds outside: wind, owls, but here only we were. Lucas’s hand on my back, “I love you” he whispered. “I love you too” I replied. The pain from the past was still there, but now smaller, the love bigger. Tomorrow new beginning. Together.
But morning the phone rang. Erika called. Her voice trembled. “Nathan, your mother. She’s coming.” My heart stopped. What awaits us?
