Why I Write in English

I write in English because my own language grew heavy with silence.
Too many memories live in its words — too much that still hurts to say.
When I write in English, I breathe differently.
The distance gives me room to speak,
to tell the truth without the weight of old eyes watching.
Hungarian is the language of where I come from.
English became the language of who I am now.
I don’t write to sound perfect.
I write to survive,
to leave a small light on
for anyone still walking through their own darkness.
